Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is caused by a new coronavirus first identified in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. Because it is a new virus, scientists don't have a full understanding of this new disease and are learning more each day. Although most people who have COVID-19 have mild symptoms, including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting and diarrhea, COVID-19 can also cause severe illness and even death. Some groups like older adults and people who have certain underlying medical conditions are at increased risk of severe illness. When going out in public, it is important to stay at least 6 feet away from other people and wear a mask to slow the spread of COVID-19.
